Naviscan is a 100% offline-first document scanner. Your scans never leave your device.

1. Architecture & data handling
Naviscan is built as a 100% offline-first application. Every feature — document scanning, image filtering, optical character recognition (OCR), full-text search, PDF generation, password encryption, and electronic signatures — runs entirely on your device using the operating system's on-device APIs and our own local processing pipelines.
Naviscan does not operate any backend servers that receive your scans, recognized text, search queries, or files. There is no "cloud sync" component, no analytics SDK that ships your usage off-device, and no machine-learning feedback channel sending images back to us. The only data that ever leaves your device is what the advertising and purchase services need to function — the Google AdMob ads shown to free users (section 4) and the app-store billing that powers Naviscan Pro (section 5). Neither of those receives your documents, scanned images, or OCR text.
2. Device permissions we use
The app requests the minimum set of permissions required to scan, edit, and export documents:
- Camera. Used only when you tap the scan button. The camera feed is consumed entirely on-device by the operating system's document scanner (Apple VisionKit on iOS, ML Kit Document Scanner on Android) to detect page edges and capture the image. We never copy, upload, or persist the live camera feed.
- Local storage. Used to save scanned page images, the local SQLite database that indexes your documents, and PDF exports. All files live inside Naviscan's private application storage on your device.
- Photo library (optional). If you choose to import an existing image, the system photo picker hands a single image to Naviscan. We do not enumerate or scan your photo library.
- Biometric authentication (optional). If you enable the biometric app lock, the operating system prompts you for Face ID, Touch ID, or your device PIN. Naviscan only receives a success/failure result — biometric data never leaves the secure enclave.
3. What we collect (and don't)
We do not collect, transmit, or store any of your data on external servers. Specifically, the following data stays on your device and is never sent to us or any third party:
- Scanned page images (both raw captures and processed filters)
- Text extracted by on-device OCR
- Document titles, search history, and the local document database
- Generated PDF files and any passwords you choose for them
- Saved electronic signatures
- App settings such as your biometric-lock preference
Naviscan contains no third-party analytics, crash reporting, or telemetry SDKs that would transmit your usage data off-device. The free version does include Google AdMob to display banner ads; the data AdMob handles is limited to what's needed to serve and measure those ads, and is described in section 4. It never has access to your documents, scanned images, or recognized text.
4. Advertising (Google AdMob)
The free version of Naviscan shows banner advertisements served by Google AdMob, Google's mobile advertising service. Ads are the only third-party data-collecting component in the app, and they appear only to users who have not subscribed to Naviscan Pro.
To request and display ads, the AdMob software collects a limited set of device and ad-related information — typically including your device's advertising identifier, coarse (non-precise) location inferred from your IP address, device type and operating system, and basic ad-interaction signals such as whether an ad was shown or tapped. This data is handled by Google to serve, cap, and measure ads and to limit fraud. AdMob never receives your scanned documents, page images, OCR text, search history, or any file you create in Naviscan — those stay on your device as described above.
Google's use of this data is governed by the Google Privacy Policy, and you can learn how Google uses information from apps that use its services at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites. You can reset your advertising identifier or limit ad personalization at any time in your device settings (Android: Settings → Privacy → Ads; iOS: Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking / Apple Advertising). Subscribing to Naviscan Pro removes all ads.
Ads may be shown in the free version where advertising is enabled for that platform. Pro removes ads where subscriptions are available.
5. Subscriptions & billing
Naviscan Pro is sold as an in-app subscription through Google Play (and, where offered, the Apple App Store). Plans are available on a monthly or yearly basis, and a plan may include a free trial before the first charge. The price, trial length, and renewal terms are shown to you on the purchase screen before you confirm.
Billing is handled entirely by the app store (Google Play or Apple). Naviscan does not operate its own payment system and does not receive or store your payment-card details. We do not use a third-party subscription management service such as RevenueCat. To unlock Pro, the app asks the store whether you hold an active subscription and stores only a simple on-device flag recording the result — your name, email, and payment details are never sent to us.
Subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled. You can view, manage, or cancel a subscription, and request refunds, directly in your Google Play or App Store account settings, under those stores' respective terms. Restoring a previous purchase simply re-checks your store account for an active subscription.
6. Children's privacy
Naviscan is not directed at children under the age of 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone, including children, because the app does not collect personal data at all.
7. Your rights
Because Naviscan does not collect or store your data on our servers, there is no remote profile to access, correct, export, or delete. Your scans, OCR text, settings, and exports are entirely under your control on your device. You can:
- Delete individual documents or pages from within the app at any time.
- Uninstall Naviscan to remove every file the app created on your device.
- Manage or cancel your Naviscan Pro subscription directly in your App Store or Google Play account settings.
If you are a resident of the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, California, or another region with statutory privacy rights, those rights still apply — they are simply already satisfied because we hold no personal data about you.
8. Changes to this policy
If we materially change how Naviscan handles data (for example, if a future feature ever required server-side processing), we will update this page with a new effective date and surface the change in the app before the new version ships. Continued use of Naviscan after such an update means you accept the revised policy.
